Working Together, Developing Personal Strengths, Creating Stronger Relationships
My therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes. Occasionally, when a client is in crisis, I will lengthen the sessions according to need.
I usually see my clients once per week, but offer twice weekly sessions for those who require more frequent contact. In order for therapy to be successful, it is important to maintain a consistent schedule.
Many people are in a great deal of emotional pain when they first contact a therapist and are anxious to get started as soon as possible. Some fear they might change their minds if they have to wait too long. As a result, I try my best to schedule your initial appointment within a few business days of your phone call or email contact.
Scheduling an appointment can be done by calling me at (847) 942-2050 or by emailing me at
handel-fano@IllinoisClinicalPsychologist.com. The fastest way to reach me is by email.
Please leave your name, phone number, and the best times to reach you and I will return your call or email as soon as possible (usually within a few hours) during regular business hours.
During our first conversation, we can discuss your reasons for seeking services. You can ask me any questions you might have about my practice. We will also discuss fees, insurance information, and possible times for us to meet.
Many people feel nervous coming in for the first appointment. I understand this and make every effort to make the process as easy and comfortable as possible. During our first appointment, I will first ask you to fill out some paperwork. We will discuss the reasons for your visit and the goals you have for therapy. I will ask you questions about what is troubling you and a little bit about your history. By the end of our first session, I will be able to offer some impressions about which treatment approach might be most helpful in meeting your treatment goals and we can discuss any questions you have about the therapy process. Since the first appointment is more of a clinical evaluation, it usually lasts longer than our subsequent sessions. Prepare to spend approximately 60 - 75 minutes together during this first meeting.
In general, the privacy of all communications between a client and a psychologist is protected by law and is strictly confidential. However, there are a few instances in which this confidentiality must be broken. If I believe that you are in imminent danger of harming yourself or someone else, I am obligated to take protective action by reporting the threat of harm to the proper authorities. Similarly, if I believe that a child, elderly or disabled person is being abused, I am legally required to report this to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Finally, in some legal situations, a judge may override my efforts to protect your privacy if he/she determines that the issues involved demand disclosure. These situations rarely occur in my practice. If one of these issues should occur, I will make every effort to fully discuss it with you before taking any action.
I accept cash, checks, VISA, MasterCard and Discover cards, and Venmo payments. Payment is due at the time of service.
I am a provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. I will happily fill out and submit all the forms necessary for reimbursement. Please let me know when you schedule your first appointment if you plan to use your Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO insurance benefits.
I am also happy to serve as an out-of-network provider for any other insurance company if your plan allows for this. I ask that you pay the hourly fee at the time of service and I will give you a receipt which you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
